Yorkshire Water are going to lay 700 metres of new water pipe in the carriageway of the A59 York Road, Kirk Hammerton Moor from an area near to Red Lane and Geoffrey Benson and Son to the junction with Pool Lane and Skipbridge Service Station.
This work is to replace the existing clean water pipe which is prone to leaking and to ensure they can continue to supply high-quality drinking water to local customers and businesses.
From Monday 30 September 2019 their capital partners, Morrison Utility Services, will start work to lay the new water pipe. They expect this work to take until the end of November 2019 to complete and normal working hours will be Monday to Sunday 8am to 4.30pm. On occasions they may need to work a little later.
Y. Water have worked closely with North Yorkshire County Council Highways Department and, in order to carry out this work safely for both road users and the site team, will use two and three-way traffic lights whilst they work in short sections of the road, which will move as the work progresses.
The lights will be in operation 24 hours a day 7 days a week and will be operator controlled between 7am and 7pm to help reduce congestion.
Y Water wish to apologise for any inconvenience this work will cause and thank everyone in advance for their patience. Water or wastewater supply shouldn’t be interrupted.
If you have any comments then please let me know and I can forward to the relevant authority.

Are they laying the pipe an inch per day? Because there seems to be very little progress. Meanwhile we are stuck in traffic for miles / hours per day on this important road.
Half an inch I think .The traffic is horrendous crack on out of hours but not rush hours !
Usual disregard for road users, not worth using A59 until December unless you have an hour to spare queuing in traffic.
Must have been 2 – 3 miles of traffic there tonight, added over 30 mins to a trip to harrogate. It must be essential work but why aren’t they working through the night to complete such disruptive work asap?
I have only seen the lights operator control on a hand full of occasions in the last 6 weeks and they certainly were not operator controlled 13/11/2019 as I sat in the traffic for 40 minutes
Horrendous roadworks causing severe delays for people trying to get to and from work. Be prepared to be sitting in traffic for 40 minutes+
I have passed this work site about 6 times now between say 5pm and 6.30 pm during the week….not seen one workman in operation during that time…I agree with others, crack on and get it finished…this is a key route for many
Hi, Has this been completed now ? cheers
Looks like it. I drove through there an hour ago and no sign of roadworks. I had a clear run
