Book Club heads back to the Sixties for May when we will discuss “The Girl With Green Eyes” by Edna O’Brien.

Naïve convent girl Caithleen Brady moves to Dublin and becomes involved with Eugene, a married film-maker several years her senior. The affair forces a confrontation between the Catholic values of her upbringing and the changing cultural attitudes of the 1960s. O’Brien’s willingness to engage with sensitive issues makes her writing of the first importance; her sensitivity to the realities of individual experience within strict social constraints makes the novel unmissable.
