The Kirk Hammerton Singers performed at Kirk Hammerton Village Hall on Saturday 5th October at 7.30pm. The musical theme of ‘Stage & Screen’ provided music from Oliver, Les Miserables, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Chess, Disney and much more! All performers are from the local area and a collection was made towards village hall funds. Light refreshments were available at the end of the concert.
The Kirk Hammerton Singers were formed in February 2012, after Nigel Robertshaw was ‘volunteered’ to run the group. The group uses backing tracks to perform to, as it nicer to sing with an orchestra or band, rather than just a piano!
The Kirk Hammerton Singers meet on a Thursday night at 7.30pm in Kirk Hammerton Village Hall (opposite the church) and everyone is welcome to join in, both novices and those with a little more experience.
We do make use of harmony in the music wherever possible, but if you just want to sing the tune, then that’s OK too! Most of the music performed is in the style of light entertainment, such as stage & screen, but occasionally we cover something a little more ‘serious’ for the Christmas concert. Music is to be enjoyed, so that’s what we do!
Nigel Robertshaw was a professional musician for 23 years in the RAF Music Services and as well as working with the Kirk Hammerton Singers, he still manages to blow his trumpet too! He feels it is good to be able to pass on his experience and encourage others to get on the stage. If you would like to take part, contact Nigel on 01423 331081 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
The next event will be our Christmas concert in Kirk Hammerton church on Saturday 7th December at 7.30pm.
